Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes announced the final and official roster of Philippine basketball team to play in 2013 FIBA Asia Championship this August.
Update July 11: The 12-man team roster has been named below.
And of course, the 17-man lineup included 7 from his former team Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters.
The FIBA Asia Championship is scheduled on August 1-11, 2013 here in the Philippines, the first time in 40 years that the country will host the international tournament. The top 3 teams who will emerge from the event will represent Asia in next year’s Fiba World Championship.
The Philippine Cup 2013 champs TNT will lend cagers Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Kelly Williams, Jared Dillinger and Ryan Reyes to the squad. Controversial Japeth Aguilar, a former Texter but now a Global Port player, was also named to the team. Here’s the complete roster of the Smart-Gilas pool:
Official Lineup for FIBA Asia 2013
- LA Tenorio
- Jimmy Alapag
- Larry Fonacier
- Gary David
- Gabe Norwood
- Japeth Aguilar
- Jayson Castro
- Jeff Chan
- Ranidel de Ocampo
- Marc Pingris
- JunMar Fajardo
- Marcus Douthit
Official 12-man was named before the team embark on 10-game exhibition in New Zealand.
I like the pool that coach Chot assembled but I think it will be better if he included 2-way players like Arwind Santos and Calvin Abueva to the mix. Also, with more bigs up front, it’s time to drop naturalized Marcus Douthit.
What do you think of this Smart Gilas lineup for FIBA Asia tourney?
