Philippine Superliga opens professional volleyball league on July 2013

Update: All Star Game for Superliga is in the works. The country will have its own professional volleyball league in Philippine Super Liga, which is set to open on July 7, 2013.

Former Ateneo Lady Eagles star and now sports columnist Gretchen Ho introduced the local volleyball league in her column The Heart of the Game in Balls Channel website.

According to Ho, Philippine Superliga will be an invitational tournament featuring six teams with 14 players each. Coaches Roger Gorayeb of ADMU, Sammy Acaylar of DLSU, Vilet de Leon of UST and Jerry Yee of Hope Christian High School will man the sidelines for some of Superliga teams.

“Just imagine watching the volleyball greats like Michelle, Marietta, Suzanne and Cha playing together or against each other on a whole new level of volleyball. Just imagine seeing your favorite players like Rhea Dimaculangan, Aiza Maizo, Kara Acevedo, Karla Bello, Maica Morada, Nica Guliman, Joy Cases, Joy Benito and Steph Mercado returning to that court. Just imagine a league where these players can be traded and shuffled to form the best teams.”
