PBA teams of business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan drew first blood against corporate rival SMC-owned team in the first day of PBA Commissioner’s Cup 2013 Quarterfinals.
In the first game, Meralco Bolts escaped with a win against San Mig Coffee Mixers, 88-85, in a tightly contested game. Down by 1 with under 20 seconds to go, Mixers burned 3 timeouts but unable to come up with a nice play. They hold the ball instead for a several seconds before going 1-on-1 with PJ Simon, which led to desperation 3 by Mark Barroca.
Eric Dawson again came up big with 25 Points, 18 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 2 Steals to earn best player honors.
In the second game, TNT extended the lead to 9 points early in the fourth and hang on to beat Petron Blaze Boosters, 100-93. The Boosters were unable to capitalize on their big frontline of Junmar Fajardo when TNT import Jerome Jordan was on the bench with foul trouble.
Ryan Reyes was great on both ends of the court, and hit a run-stopping three in the waning seconds of the game to seal the win for TNT. He finished with 16 points and 4 steals as best player of the game.
PBA games continue tomorrow with double-header of Alaska vs Air21 and Rain or Shine vs Barangay Ginebra. Alaska and ROS has twice-to-beat advantage, and could advance in the semis with a win.
